The damaging economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis has been amplified by the extent of the UK’s reliance on services. An enduring structural reduction in demand for services such as hospitality and international tourism will mean extra challenges for the UK’s recovery, as well as weaken its ability to withstand similar economic shocks in the future. Does this mean the Government should be doing more to support UK manufacturing? If so, what action does the Government need to take?
